Scott is a trial attorney in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Client Service Department. He represents Fortune 500 companies, publicly traded companies, privately held companies, public and private universities, and public utilities in a variety of business disputes. Scott litigates disputes involving breach of contract and warranty, employment discrimination, construction, trademark infringement, trade secrets, and covenants not to compete.
Scott has successfully tried cases to juries and judges. He obtained a complete defense verdict, and a six-figure award on a counterclaim, after a six-week jury trial. At trial, the plaintiff sought over $30,000,000 in compensatory damages for breach of contract, theft of trade secrets, and tortious interference with business relations. Discovery in the case lasted over three years, with the production of over two-million documents and with over 30 depositions taken. He also assisted in obtaining a six figure jury verdict in a alcoholic beverage distribution trail. Scott also obtained a complete defense verdict in a trial to a judge in which the plaintiff sought damages caused by an allegedly defective wood sealant.
Additionally, Scott regularly represents clients in temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunction proceedings. He won a dismissal of an action in which the plaintiff sought a temporary restraining order to be readmitted to a public university and damages for disability discrimination. He also has obtained temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions for clients who sought to enjoin the theft of trade secrets and to enforce covenants not to compete.
Scott has also successfully negotiated settlements for his clients. He was a member of a litigation team that obtained the return of numerous pre-World War II Mercedes Benz cars and millions of dollars worth of parts for similar cars to a trust that claimed ownership of the cars and parts.
In the Spring of 2006, at the age of 33, Scott received the “40 Under 40” award from the Dayton Business Journal. The award recognizes young leaders in the Dayton area who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their profession and the community. In 2006 and 2007, Scott was recognized as a "Rising Star" in Ohio Super Lawyers.
Scott is also an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton School of Law, where he teaches Complex Litigation and Appellate Advocacy.
